What to do, to make it all go right.

1. Before you ever touch your unhealed piercing you must ALWAYS, this means each and every time, wash your hands thoroughly with an antibacterial soap.

2. Keep contact with your unhealed piercing to a minimum, this will hinder the healing process, and irritate the piercing, possibly causing the piercing to travel (begin to shift under the skin, making it crooked and such) or to reject (the piercing will begin to rise to the surface, breaking through layers of skin and eventually ripping out).

3. Clean your piercing as often as possible (about twice a day). Do not get worried if you see some crusty-like discharge on, or around your piercing, this is normal and easily cleaned off with a warm shower and a napkin (something disposable) used to gently wipe the piercing off. Unless you are planning to let your piercing heal up do not take the stud/ring/barbell out of your piercing until it is completely healed.

4. Taking a multivitamin before and after you receive your piercing is ideal, it helps the healing, and prevention of infection. Also, vitamins are good for your health in general. :) Another tip, Vitamin E (in liquid form) helps elasticity in skin, so rubbing this around the piercing after you clean it every time could be helpful as well.

5. After your piercing is healed, maintenance is pretty simple (for most piercings, surface piercings are an exception to this) don’t change your stud/ring/barbell until this point, and when you do change it use only rings made for piercings (don’t stick a safety pin, or something stupid in it) because other inatimate objects may have sharp points or edges that will scrape the inside and give you a nasty infection.

6. If you have to take your ring/stud/barbell out of your healed piercing for an extended length of time, it is better to put beck the original ring/stud/barbell back in until no swelling or redness remains.

7. These are the basics of piercing care and maintenance, if you think your piercing is infected contact your piercer immediately so they can inspect it. If any other questions arise, you should contact your piercer, as well.

8. Enjoy Your Piercing!!
